THE WILL OF GOD - NYOBS 08.31

 THE WILL OF GOD
Do we have anything to do with the “will of God” being accomplished?

I’ll see you tomorrow, Lord Willing and the creeks don’t rise.  How many times have you heard that? At first blush, it would seem that if God “willed it”, it wouldn’t matter if the creeks rise or not.
Can the creeks of ignorance in our life stop the “will of God?”

Is it possible to know the will of God?

“If it’s God’s Will”
  • James 4:13 is a wonderful Bible verse, but it has become a stumbling block to us because we lack the knowledge of His Word. - We can know the will of God by studying the scriptures.
  • If God has already told us “His will” about a matter, then when we pray, “If it be your will”, our prayer becomes a prayer of doubt.  If He said it, then claim it as yours – A done deal.
  • I can find a dozen verses that say God wants us to be healed.  So when we pray for the sick to be healed, we shouldn’t say “if it be your will” (it is His will) – Quote the scriptures and thank Him for the answer. – We shouldn’t pray a prayer of doubt. – That’s double minded and with that, we should not expect to receive anything.
  • Lord Willing, I’ll see you at church Sunday” – That’s NUTSIt is God’s Will that on the Sabbath, you go to a Bible believing church.
James 4:13-16 – If it is God’s Will – we will do this or that
13 Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money."
14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and vanishes.
15 Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." NIV]
Matt 9:2-3 Jesus wants to heal you
2 Sir, the leper pleads, ”If you want to, you can heal me”
3 Jesus touches the man and says, “I want to, be healed”  LB
Heb 10:25 – We should meet together and worship God
25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit NIV
James 1:6-8 – Don’t be double minded.
6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. NIV

God’s Sovereignty
  • God is sovereign, which means He can do anything He wants to do with His creations.
  • Except - He cannot lie or change His nature or change His laws or break His covenant.
  • He has given us free will which means our life is Decision Driven by our own corrupt spirit.
  • If God’s will was done on earth, everyone would be saved and there would be no evil or crime.
  • God’s will is not being done on earth – But we can know and do His will by studying His Word.
Mal 3:6 – He does not change
6 "I the LORD do not change. NIV

Our Authority
  • It is God’s will for us to have authority over the earth - Satan took the authority from Adam – God sent His Son Jesus to redeem us and to take the earth back from Satan.
Gen 1:28 – Gods will - have authority over the life on earth.
28 And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. ASV
Rom 5:12 – Satan stole Adam’s authority over the earth
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Luke 4:6 – Satan gives the power to whom he chooses.
6 And the devil said unto him, all this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. KJV
Gal 4:4-5 – God will – Sent His Son to redeem Mankind...
4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. KJV
Two families
  • There are two families on earth; those of Satan and those of Christ.
  • By our very nature we are of the family of Satan because of the fall of Adam.
  • It is God’s will that we become a part of the family of God
  • It is God’s will that every knee bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
Eph 2:3 – By nature we are the objects of God’s wrath
3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath NIV
John 3:5-6 – We must be born of the Spirit
5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
Phil 2:10-11 – Every tongue confess Jesus is Lord.
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV

Satan’s Works
  • We are in a spiritual struggle against powers of the dark world, against spiritual forces of evil – It is Satan that binds up our life and it’s the Holy Spirit that intercedes for us.
  • God’s “will” is not being done on earth – It is His “will” that we know our authority over Satan and know the Lord’s will for our life.
  • It is God’s will that the evil works of Satan be destroyed.
  • He wants us to resist Satan which will cause the evil one to flee from us.
  • It is God’s will that our enemies be defeated in our everyday walk of life.
Luke 11:2 – God’s will is not being done
2 And he said unto them, When you pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. KJV
Deut 28:7 – God wants your enemies defeated
7 The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. NIV
Eph 6:12 – Our struggle is against satanic activity.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. NIV
1 John 3:8 – God’s will is that Satan’s works be destroyed
8 He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. NIV
James 4:7 – It is God’s “will” that we resist the devil
7 Submit your selves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. NIV
Acts 10:38 – Sickness is of Satan
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. NIV
Luke 13:16 – God wants you to know that it is Satan that binds.
16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?" NIV

Look to the Son
  • This word study was hard for me since God is Sovereign and can do anything He wants to.  But as I studied I saw that there are some things God cannot do. - He cannot violate His own character, or what He has already said, and that He cannot lie or break His covenant or His laws. – He cannot change.
  • Jesus and God are one person. – Jesus is God in the flesh. – Jesus cannot change.
  • So to know God’s will, it would seem that we should look at His Son and what He did as He only did what He saw the Father do.
  • Jesus told the disciples to pray that “God’s will” would be done in earth, because obviously it’s not being done.  This is a hard concept, but God’s perfect will cannot be done till Jesus Christ returns in the end times.
John 1:1 – Jesus was in the beginning.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. KJV

30 I and the Father are one." NIV

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. KJV

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. NIV

Renew the mind – God’s will
  • Our minds are conformed to the things of this world – We are ALL corrupt – There is not one person that is good – NOT ONE
  • The only way to transform our mind is to be a student of God’s Word – The Bible - It’s God’s will that ALL be saved - those living and those not yet born. - He wants us to receive a new heart – one of compassion toward others.
  • It is His will that our minds be renewed and be set free from ignorance of His truth and that His words be unfolded and the understanding of His mysteries be revealed to us, and that our eyes be full of light.
  • He wants us to have a gentle and quite spirit – To be content and not worry – To be in perfect peace in our life.
