INCEST

Sexual union inescapable involves the whole person whether within or outside of the marriage.

Marriage is a state in which a people can naturally fulfill their respective Sexual roles.

First Word

·         SEX IS STRONG, it drives both men and women to go against God’s commands.  Sometimes the passion is so great that you can’t escape it.  Sometimes the drive for sex is so strong it becomes RAPE. – NYOBS 08.18 - ADULTRY AND FORNICTION – NYOBS 22.23 - POTIPHAR’S WIFE - FLIRTING

• While immoral behavior is only one of the Ten Commandments, it is by far one of the strongest; INCEST spins off unwanted children – lies – emotional distress – broken families – disease – sickness – physical disorders and sometimes murder.  
• When you are horny, a kiss can melt you. - Even a toad frog will look like a prince.

·          It’s a commandment – No sex outside of marriage. – Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so therefore do not dishonor God. – SEX outside of marriage IS A SIN.

·         THE BIG QUESTION: Can a brother marry his sister or can a father marry his daughter?

Ex 20:14 – ADULTERY NOT

14 "You shall not commit adultery. NIV

Prov 6:32 – An adultery destroys himself for lack of knowledge.

32 But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself. NIV

Acts 15:20 – FORNICATION NOT

20 we write to them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

1 Thess 4:3 – God’s will – abstain from fornication

3 For this is the will of God, (even) your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication; ASV

Ex 22:16 – If you have sex, then you should get married.

16 "If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife. NIV

Prov 27:7 – When you’re horny, a toad frog looks like a prince.

7 He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet. NIV.

Prov 23:27-28 – Sex is a deep pit and hard to get out

27 for a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well.

28 Like a bandit she lies in wait, and multiplies the unfaithful.

14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit NIV

Prov 5:3 – Her lips melt you.

3 For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil; NKJV

The LAW Defined

·         Wikipedia - Incest is sexual activity between family members or close relatives. This typically includes sexual activity between people in a consanguineous relationship (blood relations), and sometimes those related by affinity, such as members of the same household, step relatives, those related by adoption or marriage, or members of the same clan or lineage.

·         Bible - The Hebrews were called to a higher code of sexual ethics than their pagan neighbors. – The Hebrew word for Incest means “a mixing of unnatural elements”.

·         Attempted marriage or SEX between closely related persons constituted a capital crime therefore it required capital punishment; DEATH.

Physical Deformities

·         Wikipedia says that a common justification given for the incest taboo is the impact inbreeding may have on children of incestuous sex. - Children whose biological parents have a close genetic relationship have an increased risk of congenital disorders, disabilities and death due at least in part to genetic diseases caused by the inbreeding.

·         The Egyptians interestingly enough thought that marriages between brothers and sisters made the blood line stronger. – Medical science today shows that it can cause Down Syndrome, mental impairment, stunted growth, shortened hands or neck, low muscle tone, flat head, large tongue, abnormal teeth, abnormal ears, flattened nose, slanted eyes, undescended testicles as well as congenital heart disease.

·         Albinism (white skin) results from inheritance of recessive gene alleles. - It is a congenital disorder characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin.

·         In scripture it appears that when God gave His laws against incest that He already knew that children could have physical disorders through the inbreeding. 

Leviticus 18:6 – Don’t have sex with a blood relative.
⁶ None of you shall approach any blood relative of his to uncover nakedness; I am the LORD. (NASB)

Incest LAW

·         The Incest LAW would include having SEX with your sister even if she is the child of your mother from a previous marriage; - Sex with Your Son’s Daughter – Your Father’s Sister – Your Mother’s Sister – Your Aunt – Your Daughter in Law – Your Bothers Wife.

·         You cannot have sex with a woman and her daughter nor a woman and her sister while they are both living.

Leviticus – 18:9-18 – SEX with Sisters, Daughters, Aunts

⁹ The nakedness of your sister, either your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether born at home or born outside.

¹⁰ The nakedness of your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter,
¹¹ The nakedness of your father's wife's daughter, born to your father, she is your sister, you shall not uncover her nakedness.
¹² You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister;

¹³ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister,

¹⁴ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's brother; you shall not approach his wife, she is your aunt.
¹⁵ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law;

¹⁶ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother's wife;

¹⁷ You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, nor shall you take her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are blood relatives

¹⁸ You shall not marry a woman in addition to her sister as a rival while she is alive, to uncover her nakedness.

¹⁰ Men sleep with their fathers’ wives

¹¹ Within your walls live men who commit adultery with their neighbors’ wives, who defile their daughters-in-law, or who rape their own sisters. (NLT)

Before the LAW

·         Before the Leviticus Law was given there was obviously major incest occurring during the time of Adam and Eve whose children intermarried with their sisters, bothers, cousins and so forth fulfilling the mandate and command to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth.

·         Adam begat his third son Seth when he was a young man of only 130 and lived to be 930 years of age giving plenty of time to produce many extended family members for Cain to choose from to marry - There is no record of any daughters, as the recorded line of heritage was through the Sons. - NYOBS 16.06 - CAIN AND ABEL

·         What COLOR was God? We see God as the same color that we are as scripture says we were made in His image and likeness.  What Color was Adam before any genetic disorders?

·         What if Adam had BLACK skin and Eve had YELLOW skin and when Cain killed Abel the mark that God placed on him was that he made his skin turn WHITE setting up the skin colors for the races. – (That one is just for fun, it’s not in the Bible … so don’t get upset.)

·         Sometimes it does gives me pause to wonder, if in God’s plan, the inner marriages caused the physical changes in skin colors and eventually the different races. - Just a thought.

·         Noah repopulated the earth with three races. - It is believed that Noah’s three sons had taken wives from other nations before the flood. - NYOBS 17.10- NOAH’S ARK

·         Shem is the progenitor of the “Semitic” peoples of the East. (White)

·         Japheth’s descendants are the inhabitants of Asia Minor and the sea people. (Yellow)

·         Ham’s descendants became the Egyptians, Canaanites and Africans. (Black)

Genesis 1:26 – Let us make man in our image; our likeness

The Law Defied

·         There are recorded instances in the Bible where incest occurred between members of the same household or with step relatives or those related by marriage, or were members of the same clan, which makes you scratch your head and say “WHAT’S GOING ON HERE”? The first one we see is Lot, who was the grandson of Terah, Abraham’s Father.

1.     Lot’s two daughters got him drunk on two different occasions and had sex with him because there were no men to marry to be able to preserve and carry on their family line.

2.     Abraham married Sarah his sister who was the daughter of his father, but not the daughter of his mother; it was his step sister.

3.     Nahor the brother of Abraham married his brother Haran’s daughter.

4.     Ruben has sex with his father Jacob’s wife and concubine.

5.     Amram married his father’s sister, Jochebed.

6.     Judah unknowingly had sex with Tamar his daughter in law.

7.     Amnon rapes his Sister Tamar and then his passion turned to hate.

8.     Absalom went in and had sex with his father David’s concubines.

9.     King Herod took his brother’s wife and married her.

10.   Isaac marries Rebekah who was his near of kin.

11.   Jacob although tricked, married Sisters; Leah and Rachael.

12.   Rehoboam married his cousin Mahalath.

Genesis 19:31-36 – Lot has SEX with his TWO daughters
³¹ One day the older daughter said to her sister, “There are no men left anywhere in this entire area, so we can’t get married like everyone else. And our father will soon be too old to have children.
³² Come, let’s get him drunk with wine, and then we will have sex with him. That way we will preserve our family line through our father.”
³³  So that night they got him drunk with wine, and the older daughter went in and had intercourse with her father. He was unaware of her lying down or getting up again.
³⁴ The next morning the older daughter said to her younger sister, “I had sex with our father last night. Let’s get him drunk with wine again tonight, and you go in and have sex with him. That way we will preserve our family line through our father.”
³⁵ So that night they got him drunk with wine again, and the younger daughter went in and had intercourse with him. As before, he was unaware of her lying down or getting up again.
³⁶ As a result, both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their own father. (NLT)

Genesis 20:12 – Abraham married his Sister
¹²And she really is my sister, for we both have the same father, but different mothers. And I married her. (NLT)

Genesis 11:29 – Nahor married his brothers daughter
²⁹ Meanwhile, Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah. (Milcah and her sister Iscah were daughters of Nahor’s brother Haran.) (NLT)

Genesis 35:22 – Ruben has SEX with his father’s Concubine
²² While he was living there, Reuben had intercourse with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Jacob soon heard about it. These are the names of the twelve sons of Jacob: (NLT)

Genesis 49:4 - Ruben had SEX with his father’s Wife
⁴ But you are as unruly as a flood, and you will be first no longer. For you went to bed with my wife; you defiled my marriage couch. (NLT)

Exodus 6:20  - Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed
²⁰  Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, and she gave birth to his sons, Aaron and Moses. (Amram lived to be 137 years old.) (NLT)

Genesis 38:16-18 – Judah unknowingly had sex daughter in law
¹⁶ So he (Judah) stopped and propositioned her. “Let me have sex with you,” he said, not realizing that she was his own daughter-in-law. “How much will you pay to have sex with me?” Tamar asked.
¹⁷ I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” Judah promised. “But what will you give me to guarantee that you will send the goat?”

¹⁸ What kind of guarantee do you want?” he replied. She answered, “Leave me your identification seal and its cord and the walking stick you are carrying.” So Judah gave them to her. Then he had intercourse with her, and she became pregnant.

1 Chronicles 2:4 – Judah had twin sons by his daughter in law
⁴ Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah.. (NLT)

2 Samuel 13:14 - Amnon rapes his Sister Tamar
¹⁴ But Amnon wouldn’t listen to her, and since he was stronger than she was, he raped her. (NLT)

2 Samuel 16:21-22 - Absalom had sex with father’s concubines
²¹ Ahithophel told him, “Go and sleep with your father’s concubines, for he has left them here to look after the palace. Then all Israel will know that you have insulted your father beyond hope of reconciliation, and they will throw their support to you.”
²² Absalom went in and had sex with his father’s concubines. (NLT)

Matthew 14:3-4– King Herod marries his brother’s wife
³ For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias (the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).
⁴ John had been telling Herod, “It is against God’s law for you to marry her.” (NLT)

Genesis 24:4 Isaac marries Rebekah; near of kin
⁴ Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.” (NLT)

Genesis 29:23-27 – Jacob tricked; marries sisters Leah & Rachel
²³ But that night, when it was dark, Laban took Leah to Jacob, and he slept with her. But when Jacob woke up in the morning—it was Leah! “What have you done to me?” Jacob raged at Laban. “I worked seven years for Rachel! Why have you tricked me?”
²⁶ It’s not our custom here to marry off a younger daughter ahead of the firstborn,” Laban replied.
²⁷ But wait until the bridal week is over, then we’ll give you Rachel, too—provided you promise to work another seven years for me.”

2 Chronicles 11:18 - Rehoboam married his cousin Mahalath
¹⁸  Rehoboam married his cousin Mahalath, the daughter of David’s son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Eliab son of Jesse.

Noah’s Family “Affair”

·         Uncover the Nakedness is a polite term used in the Bible meaning to have SEX.

·         In the Story of Noah; he had planted a vineyard and made some wine out of the grapes and got drunk and was inside his tent naked; (I personally think EVERYBODY was drunk.)

·         It seems someone in the near family came in and uncovered Noah’s nakedness which scripture supports, means that they had sex with Noah’s wife – If the perpetrator was his son Ham, he would have put him to death; that’s why I think it was Ham’s Son “Canaan” who did the dirty.   - Noah’s reaction was not to curse his son Ham, but his grandson Canaan.

·         (I realize some students believe that this was the first act of homosexuality and had nothing to do with Mrs. Noah - I believed that too for a while.) - Read the sordid detains in NYOBS 03.18 – NOAH GETS DRUNK

Leviticus – 18:7-8 – The father’s nakedness is the Mother.
⁷ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, that is, the nakedness of your mother. She is your mother

⁸ You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it is your father's nakedness.

1 Corinthians 5:1 – SEX with your Mother is immoral
¹ It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. (NASB)

Leviticus 20:11 –Sex with your mother - Both be put to death
¹¹If there is a man who lies with his father's wife, he has uncovered his father's nakedness; both of them shall surely be put to death

Deuteronomy 27:20 – Curse whoever has SEX with his Mother
²⁰ GOD's curse on anyone who has sex with his father's wife. (MSG)

The LAW Exception

·         Levirate Marriage is the exception to the rule of the intermarriage law and is where a surviving brother marries the childless wife of a deceased brother.

·         Onan by law was supposed to marry Tamar his dead brother’s wife and produce a child, but spilled his semen on the ground so he would not have a child by her; so God took his life.

Deuteronomy 25:5 – Brother should fulfill duties of dead brother
⁵ If two brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow may not be married to anyone from outside the family. Instead, her husband’s brother should marry her and have intercourse with her to fulfill the duties of a brother-in-law. (NLT)

Genesis 38:7-10 – Onan did not fulfil his duty towards Tamar
⁷ But Er (Tamar’s husband) was a wicked man in the LORD’s sight, so the LORD took his life.
⁸ Then Judah said to Er’s brother Onan, “Go and marry Tamar, as our law requires of the brother of a man who has died. You must produce an heir for your brother.”
⁹ Onan was not willing to have a child who would not be his own heir. Whenever he had intercourse with his brother’s wife, he spilled the semen on the ground. This prevented her from having a child who would belong to his brother.
¹⁰ But the LORD considered it evil for Onan to deny a child to his dead brother. So the LORD took Onan’s life, too. (NLT)

Closing Thoughts

• Incest and Sexual immorality are not new temptations or something special to modern man, it’s been around since creation and God has made His positon on it very clear.
• You GRIEVE the Holy Spirit when you go against God’s commands; they are placed there for your own good and the good of your children and your children’s children.
• Do not test God – You DO have control over your own body - God will give you a way of escape.
• SEX IS STRONG and you have to WANT to control it in order to subdue it. – It all starts in the imaginations of your mind.  NYOBS 28.02 – IMAGINATION
• Life is choice driven – You don’t have to stay where you are - God gives you time to repent and leave the life of immorality behind for a new life that honors Him. – It’s a choice.

INCEST GRIEVES THE HOLY SPIRIT

1 Cor 10:8-9 – Do not test God

8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did-and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.

9 We should not test the Lord, as some of them did-and were killed by snakes NIV

Gal 5:22-23 – You have control over your body

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 gentleness and self-control. NIV

Ephesians 4:30 – Do not GRIEVE the Holy Spirit
³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (NIV2011)

1 Cor 10:13 – God will make a way for you to escape temptation.

13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. NIV

Rev 2:20-21 – God gives us time to repent

20 I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, NIV

1 Peter 4:3-4 – You must leave the past behind.

3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do-living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

4 They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. NIV

Josh 24:15 – Chose today who you will serve

15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." NIV
