WOC - WOMEN OF THE CHURCH - NYOBS 10.05

RABBIT TRAIL FROM  NYOBS 10 - THE PLAYERS TWELVE

WOC - WOMEN OF THE CHURCH - RABBIT TRAIL
  • Salome who seems to be Mary’s sister, was very wealthy and had servants.  She supported her two sons James and John with proceeds from her husband Zebedee’s fishing business.
  • Priscilla wife of Aquila were both loyal friends and workers in the faith and supported the Christian movement by opening their home for meetings.
THE MARYS
  • Mary of Nazareth the mother of Jesus did not seam to accompany Jesus on his journeys but was present from time to time, possibly with income from the carpentry business.
  • Mary of Magdala – Cured of seven demons by Jesus.  She is not the sinful woman in Luke 7 – other writings indicate her family died and left her a great deal of wealth – she was always present - working quietly in the background with devotion to Jesus’ life - His death - and His resurrection. Mary’s devoted spirit is so easy to fall in love with.  - I would have picked her to marry Jesus, if He had the desire – (I do believe He loved her. - No scripture implied, just saying,.)
  • Mary the mother of James – Mentioned asThe Other Mary” - Is mentioned most often in service along side of Mary Magdalene
  • Mary and Martha of Bethany helped by providing a place for Jesus to stay in their home.  This is the Mary that anointed Jesus with oil and wiped His feet with her hair.
  • Mary the mother of Mark – Opened her home for meetings.
  • Mary of Rome was also a hard worker in Rome and served in the Christian movement.
  • Mary Gorman of Atlanta – Loved the Lord –first born was, Paul… That would be me.  Ha.
Mark 15:40-41 – Many worked to provide care
40 Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.
41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there. NIV
Luke 8:1-3 – Many women gave money to support the ministry.
1 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news
2….Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out;
3 Joanna the wife of Cuza,…..Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means NIV
