WHO WROTE THE BIBLE ?

QUESTION:  Who wrote the Bible?
  • Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible know as the Pentateuch. Originally the Laws were written as one book known as the Septuagint and were thought to have been separated by the Alexandrian translators.
  • The scriptures say that God commanded Moses to write “The book of the covenant”, which was also known as “The book of the Law”.
  • Moses’ lived with his father in law, Jethro a Priest in Midian for some 40 years. It is thought that this was where he wrote the “Septuagint” or perhaps just after that on Mount Sinai near where Moses saw the burning bush.
Ex 17:14
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, NIV
Ex 34:27
27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." NIV

  • Other writings suggest that Noah documented some things as well as other writers down through the ages that were passed along which were available to Jethro and Moses.
  • After Moses’ death someone finished the recording of the events in the “book of the covenant”, but it was all attributed to Moses as his writings.  So there were other writers but Moses assembled most of it.
Ex 24:7
7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, "We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey." NIV
Deut 28:58
58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, KJV
Deut 28:61
61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. KJV

QUESTION:  Why was the Bible written?
·         We believe that God wanted to reveal to man the origin of the heavens and the earth and the creation of all things – and to reveal the character of God and His personal relationship to man.

To record the following:

  • that God existed before there was anything
  • that the earth did not evolve, but was created from nothing
  • that there was a world before Adam and record its destruction
  • the re-creation and restoration of the earth – restoration of the animals and man.
  • the law of “Sin and Death” was put into effect
  • the history of the fall of man
  • the curse on man
  • the Mosaic Law – The ten commandments and other laws
  • the Covenant of the Old Testament
  • the Covenant of the New Testament
  • the redemption of man by the Messiah
  • the final days
  • His word as the FINAL AUTHORITY.

I am grateful for those that went before me providing concepts, ideas, historical information, and scripture verses.  Because of them I can stand on their shoulders and see further than I otherwise ever could have.
