Michael

First Word
The Bible teaches that
we are NOT to worship Angels even though some denominations do.
Oddly enough there are
scriptures that support angels being worshipped.
This study looks at
those scriptures and presents something called
Theophany
and Christophany
which is the appearances
of God and Jesus in OT times.
NYOBS
01.18 THEOPHANY – NYOBS 01.21 CHRISTOPHANY
The
Players
·
The scene unfolds in heaven with a war
breaking out between Michael the high Archangel and the Dragon
who is identified as the Angel Satan.
·
Michael cast Satan out of Heaven
along with his Angels that had followed him.
·
Here’s where we are; we know the players are
the Angel Michael and the Angel Satan – Understand that Satan was
the highest ranking Angel in heaven, yet he and his angels were tossed out by the
Archangel Michael… Ponder Michael’s authority
and power…
Revelation 12:7 War in
Heaven- Michael and the Dragon
7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, (NKJV)
7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, (NKJV)
Revelation 12:9 – The
Dragon is Satan
9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (NKJV)
9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (NKJV)
The Prince
·
We are told that the angel Michael is a Prince,
in fact a Great Prince which brings us up to the definition of Prince.
·
Wikipedia – Prince; the one who takes the
first place or position - refers to a member of a family that is ruled
by hereditary right. - A
prince is the son of a King and the heir to the throne.
·
Scripture says Jesus was born the Prince of Peace
and is the ONLY ONE that is the heir to the throne of God.
·
So Michael is a Prince and Jesus is a
Prince – Hang on to that thought...
Daniel 10:21 Michael is a
Prince
21 But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince.
21 But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince.
(NKJV)
Daniel 12:1 – Michael is the Great Prince
1 At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. (NKJV)
1 At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. (NKJV)
Isaiah 9:6 – Jesus is born The Prince
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV)
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV)
Begotten Son
·
The Bible teaches that Jesus is God come in
the flesh and is the ONLY begotten Son
of God.
·
While there are many sons of God; Jesus is the only
one begotten by God Himself.
·
God gave His ONLY begotten Son so that through Him
the world MIGHT be saved.
John 1:1 – The Word (Jesus) is God
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (NIV2011)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (NIV2011)
John 1:14 – God had a Son (The Word)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (KJV)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (KJV)
John 3:16-17 – God gave his ONLY son.
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him MIGHT be saved. (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him MIGHT be saved. (KJV)
The Return
·
When Christ returns, He will descend from
Heaven with a shout with the voice of the ARCHANGEL and
the dead in Christ will rise first. – Ponder
whose voice is shouting.
§ Jesus
is the
resurrection and He alone has the power over the grave – He is the only one with the keys to death and hell. – It’s His
voice that those in the graves will hear.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 – God descends with a shout
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (KJV)
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (KJV)
Jeremiah 25:30 – God is the one who roars and
shouts.
30 Therefore prophesy against them all these words, and say to them: 'The LORD will roar from on high, And utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, Against all the inhabitants of the earth. NKJV)
30 Therefore prophesy against them all these words, and say to them: 'The LORD will roar from on high, And utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, Against all the inhabitants of the earth. NKJV)
John 11:23-25 – Jesus is
the one with power over the grave
23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. (NKJV)
23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. (NKJV)
Revelation 1:18 – Jesus
has the keys to the grave and death
18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. (NKJV)
18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. (NKJV)
John 5:28-29 – Those in
the grave will hear the Voice of Jesus
28Marvel
not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves
shall hear HIS voice, (KJV)
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 –
Voice of the Archangel
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (KJV)
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (KJV)
Time out
·
Let’s pause right here to take a
look at another “altercation” between Michael and Satan over the
body of Moses after he had died. – Here’s how it all played out;
·
Moses while in the desert, was instructed
to smite the rock ONCE to get water out of it, but not following God’s detailed
instructions; he smote the rock TWICE to get the water.
·
The ROCK is a symbol of Jesus
Christ. – He is our rock and would be smote only ONCE on the Cross and water
would spill out from his side. He
would die ONCE for the sins of the world… This sin of disobedience kept Moses
from entering the Promised Land.
·
Moses died – The angel Michael came
for his body and Satan too tried to claim it for the grave. Satan outranked all
the angels, but once again lost this confrontation to Michael.
·
Michael resurrected the now dead Moses to
stand beside Elijah who never died. This
meeting would occur at the transfiguration of Christ. - Moses and Elijah
would ministered to Jesus just prior to His crucifixion. – Ponder; Michael resurrecting the dead Moses.
·
The Archangel we call Michael was actually Jesus Christ
who is the only one with the “Authority” of power over death and the
grave.- This is a Christophany; an appearance of Christ before
His birth as the Messiah which occurred often in the OT; an example is His
appearance as the Prophet, Priest and King; Melchizedek. NYOBS
01.05 MELCHIZEDEK
·
Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh, He
is NOT an angel. He is the creator of everything that was ever created.
– Think about Christ appearing as an
Angel…
Jude 1:9 – Michael said
the Lord rebuke you Satan.
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. (KJV)
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. (KJV)
Numbers 20:10-11 - Moses
sinned when he smote the rock twice
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. (KJV)

11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. (KJV)
Matthew 17:3 - Moses
appeared on the mount of transfiguration
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias (Elijah) talking with him. (KJV)

Side Bar
·
Jehovah Witnesses believe that Jesus
is Michael the Archangel, but they deny the Divinity of Jesus
Christ, teaching in fact that Jesus was an Angel.
·
Seventh Day Adventist also believe that
Jesus is Michael the Archangel, but they believe and teach that He
is God in the flesh.
God
Angel
·
The Angel of God told Jacob that He was
the GOD of Bethel. How can that be? Satan
was a created being that wanted to be God and was cast out of heaven for that
very reason. Scripture says to let your
request be made known to God alone; not angels.
·
Worshiping Angels is forbidden by
scripture, the Bible teaches not to
worship or make supplication to any angel. – Then why do we see
instances of Angels being worshipped?
·
This Angel says that He is the
God of Bethel. This seems to be God
the Son; not a created Angel who cannot be God. - Jacob exclaimed that he
had seen God face to face and lived.
·
This was a Christophany of Jesus Christ.
- Jacob worshipped Him and the angel
allowed it.
Revelation 19:10 – Do not
worship an angel, worship only God
10 And I (John) fell at his feet to worship him. But he (the angel) said to me, "See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." (NKJV)
10 And I (John) fell at his feet to worship him. But he (the angel) said to me, "See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." (NKJV)
Matthew 4:10 – Jesus said; Worship and serve God
only
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”

Philippians 4:5-6 - Let your requests be made known to GOD
5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (NASB)

Genesis 31:11-13 - Angel
of God said I am the God of Bethel
11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.
13 I am the God of BETHEL, where thou anointed the pillar, and where thou vowed a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred. (KJV)

13 I am the God of BETHEL, where thou anointed the pillar, and where thou vowed a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred. (KJV)
Hosea 12:3-5 - Worshiped
the Angel – The Lord God of hosts.
3 He (Jacob) took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in BETHEL, and there he spoke with us;
5 Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial. (KJV)

I have seen God face to face
